Fortnite is now available for Android on the Google Play Store. The game was previously available outside the Google Play Store as a direct download from developer Epic Games' website. Fortnite has come to Google Play! Squad up and compete to be the last one standing in Battle Royale, or use your imagination to build your dream Fortnite in Creative. Matchmaking Support

• We have officially released Matchmaking Portals into Creative.
• Creators with permissions will find the Matchmaking Portal in the Device Gallery and two new Matchmaking settings in the My Island Game Settings screen.
• We are initially releasing matchmaking support permissions to a limited number of users to ensure stability, but we will continue to roll this out to more users over the coming weeks, provided we don't encounter any unforeseen issues.

Devices Bug Fixes

• Added the Matchmaking Portal device.
• This device allows players to matchmake into games with other players, on islands which have been set up to support matchmaking.

• Island Code: Text Entry (Default: Blank) - use this to specify the island that the portal will point to. The target island must have been published with the new Max Players and Matchmaking Island Settings to work correctly with the portal, or have been previously set up by Epic for use with featured matchmaking portals.

When Epic finally launched Fortnite for Android, they attempted to find a way around giving Google a cut from any in-app purchases that might be made. This involved the company launching the app outside of the Play Store, although they later changed their minds. Unfortunately, several months later, Epic had another change of heart which saw them remove the game from the Play Store.

How to download the Epic Games app

1. On your Android phone, go to Epic's website and download the Epic Games app
2. You might be prompted with a warning, but tap 'OK' to proceed anyway
3. You might be prompted with a warning that says you cannot install apps from this source, but you can change that by going to your browsers settings
4. Once the .apk file has been downloaded, tap 'Open'
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the app

How to install Fortnite through the Epic Games app

1. Launch the Epic Games app on your Android phone
2. Search for Fortnite
3. Tap the 'Install' button
4. If you run into a message telling you that you cannot install apps from this source, click the settings and allow it
5. Once installation is complete, tap 'Launch'

How to install Fortnite for Samsung users

Thankfully, Epic's beef with app stores taking a cut from in-app purchases has not extended to Samsung, which means that if you own a Samsung smartphone, you will be able to download the app through the Samsung Galaxy Store. All you need to do is search for Fortnite in the Galaxy Store and you'll be able to proceed with its installation like usual.
